Anlo Chiefs Demand MP’s Identity Over Insult to Zanetor Rawlings

Anlo Chiefs addressing the media, demanding the identification of the MP who insulted Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings during parliamentary proceedings.

Traditional leaders of the Anlo Kingdom in Ghana’s Volta Region have given Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin five days to reveal the MP who made a disparaging remark about Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings. They set a deadline of February 10 for his response.

The controversy erupted during parliamentary proceedings on Tuesday, February 4. A male voice shouted, “Daughter of a murderer, sit down! Daughter of a murderer, sit down!” The remark directly targeted Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings, the MP for Klottey-Korle and eldest daughter of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings.

Many have condemned the insult inside and outside Parliament. The Anlo Chiefs stress that such language disrespects parliamentary decorum and dishonors respected figures. As the February 10 deadline nears, pressure mounts on the Speaker to identify the MP responsible.

The chiefs’ strong stance reflects cultural and societal expectations of respect in public office, especially toward figures with historic contributions.
