The Safo family and the Kristo Asafo Church have announced the passing of Apostle Dr Kwadwo Safo Kantanka,
a renowned Ghanaian philanthropist, agriculturalist, industrialist, and religious leader.
Popularly known as “Kantanka, the African Star”, he passed away peacefully on Thursday, 11 September 2025.

In a statement signed by his daughter, Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo (Esq), former MP for Dome Kwabenya,
the family described him as “a true genius, a beacon of hope for many, and a father to the fatherless.”
Family Statement
“With profound sorrow and deepest grief, the Safo family and the Kristo Asafo Church announce the peaceful passing of Ghana’s beloved man of God, the greatest technological icon, philanthropist, agriculturalist, and industrialist, popularly referred to as ‘Kantanka, the African Star’. Our dearest Father passed away peacefully on Thursday, 11 September 2025.
Romans 14:8 states: ‘For if we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord.’ Apostle Safo was a true genius, the beacon of hope for many, a father to the fatherless. Ghana has indeed lost a gallant son and a true legend.”
The family further described his legacy as one shaped by “life struggles,
dreams, resilience, courage, determination, and dedication to his calling and conviction.”
They have also appealed to the public to respect their privacy during this time of grief. Details of the burial and funeral arrangements will be announced soon.
About Apostle Dr Kwadwo Safo Kantanka
Born on 26 August 1948 in Bom, near Kensere in the Ashanti Region,
Apostle Safo Kantanka was one of Ghana’s most influential inventors and entrepreneurs.
He founded and chaired the Kantanka Group, Ghana’s largest local technology conglomerate,
and in 1994 established Kantanka Automobile, a company that designs, manufactures, and assembles luxury vehicles. His business empire extended into several sectors, including automotive, pharmaceuticals, and technological innovation.

In addition to his entrepreneurial ventures, he was the spiritual leader of the Kristo Asafo Mission,
a religious and industrial organization he founded.
Apostle Safo is remembered as a visionary technologist, philanthropist, and Pan-African advocate dedicated
to advancing local manufacturing and technology development in Ghana.
