In a powerful display of diplomatic friendship, President John Mahama has conferred Ghana’s highest national award —

the Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana — on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his official state visit on July 2, 2025.

The prestigious award, presented during a special ceremony in Accra,

celebrates PM Modi’s contributions to strengthening Ghana-India relations.

This rare honor is awarded to individuals — both Ghanaian and foreign — who have rendered distinguished and meritorious service to the nation,

particularly in the areas of National Development, Diplomacy, International Cooperation, Public Service, and Leadership.

Photos and videos shared widely on social media captured the memorable moment

President Mahama decorated Prime Minister Modi with the medal, symbolizing a deepening partnership between the two nations.

Following the award ceremony, Prime Minister Modi took to Facebook to express his heartfelt gratitude:

“I thank the people and Government of Ghana for conferring

‘The Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana’ upon me.

This honor is dedicated to the bright future of our youth, their aspirations, our rich cultural diversity and the historical ties between India and Ghana.”

He added that the award was not just a recognition but also a responsibility —

a reminder to continue building stronger ties between the two countries.

As the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Ghana in over 30 years,

Modi’s historic trip underscores India’s commitment to being a trusted friend and development partner to Ghana.

“India will always stand with the people of Ghana and continue to contribute as a trusted friend and development partner,” he affirmed.

This award ceremony marks a milestone in Ghana-India relations, rooted in mutual respect, shared values, and a vision for a brighter future led by youth and innovation.
