Mahama Pledges Major Boost for Afram Plains Infrastructure

President Mahama is taking bold steps to transform the Afram Plains through a major infrastructure drive. The government will build a 3.6-kilometre bridge across the River Afram and develop nearly 100 kilometres of roads in the Eastern Region.

This project is part of the “Big Push” agenda, which seeks to enhance agriculture, reduce poverty, and stimulate economic growth in remote areas.

The targeted roads include Mpraeso–Obomeng–Nkawkaw, Abooso–Mpaem, Mpaem–Kwahu–Adawso, and Feyiase–Kwahu Tafo. Other links such as Ekye Amanfrom–Takoratwene, Takoratwene–Dome, Takoratwene–Donkorkrom, and Donkorkrom–New Kyeiase are also included.

Roads and Highways Minister Kwame Agbodza, along with engineers, visited Donkorkrom today to inspect the bridge site and nearby roads. Speaking to journalists, Agbodza said President Mahama remains committed to opening up the Afram Plains.

“The bridge will connect the Eastern, Ashanti, and Oti Regions. It will drive commercial farming and attract agro-processing investors,” he stated.

The project will create new opportunities in farming, trade, and transportation. It also aims to strengthen regional links and support income growth through agriculture and business.
