President John Dramani Mahama has revealed that Ghana and Burkina Faso are in advanced discussions to establish a daily direct flight between Accra and Ouagadougou. The initiative aims to enhance bilateral trade and strengthen economic ties between the two nations.
Speaking at a press conference on March 10, 2025, President Mahama outlined that the introduction of the daily flight is part of a broader strategy to improve connectivity and reduce trade barriers. “We are exploring this daily flight option to facilitate smoother, faster movement of goods and people between our countries. This will significantly boost trade and open up new opportunities for our businesses,” he stated.
The proposed flight service is expected to benefit sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, and tourism, by providing a more efficient and cost-effective means of transporting products across borders. In addition to improved trade, the initiative is also seen as a step towards deepening diplomatic and cultural relations between Ghana and Burkina Faso.
President Mahama further indicated that discussions are ongoing with relevant aviation authorities and potential airline partners. “We are committed to creating a win-win situation that not only enhances trade but also promotes people-to-people connections between our two nations,” he added.
The move comes at a time when regional cooperation is receiving renewed focus, especially among West African nations, as they seek to strengthen economic integration and resilience. The daily Accra-Ouagadougou flight is expected to serve as a key facilitator in these efforts, driving growth and development in both countries.
