A tragic armed robbery in Offinso South Municipality, Ashanti Region, on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, claimed the life of a bus conductor, known as a ‘trotro mate.’

The attack took place along the Ayinasusu–Salam road. Two suspects pretending to be passengers boarded the bus. A third accomplice, hiding in nearby bushes, emerged and shot the conductor.

Ibrahim Yogo, the Assembly Member for Ayinasusu, confirmed the incident to Citi News. He said the robbers then pointed a gun at the driver and demanded a sack, which they believed had been handed to him in Wenchi.

The robbers fired several warning shots, creating panic in the area. Yogo quickly alerted the police. They responded promptly but found that the criminals had already fled. “This is the first time we’ve experienced such an attack,” Yogo said.

The police have started an investigation to find the suspects. The attack has sparked growing concerns over safety along regional transport routes, with calls for stronger security measures.
