Two Teenagers Remanded for GH¢41,000 Gold Theft in Twifo Praso

Two teenagers remanded in Twifo Praso court for stealing GH¢41,000 and gold from a shop, as police investigate accomplices.

A court in Assin Fosu has remanded two teenagers for stealing GH¢41,000 and gold from a shop in Twifo Praso. His Worship Abdul Majid Iliasu ordered their detention for further investigations.

On Sunday, February 16, 2025, the Twifo Praso District Police Command, led by District Commander Superintendent Charles Addae Boateng, arrested the suspects. Police found the girl hiding in Egyaa near Anomabo in the Mfantseman Municipality. They later arrested her boyfriend at a separate location after receiving a tip-off.

The theft happened on January 28, 2025, at a gold dealership. CCTV footage showed the girl stealing from the shop before allegedly sharing the stolen money with her accomplices, including her boyfriend. Police later confirmed he received GH¢15,000.

Chief Inspector Gilbert Abagna Anyongo suspects a larger criminal group is involved. He requested more time to verify the suspects’ real ages. The girl first claimed she was 15 but later said she was 17. Police believe the boy may be older.

Investigations suggest the suspects had monitored the gold shop for some time before executing their plan.

The court scheduled the next hearing for March 5, 2025. Police urged anyone with information about the theft or the suspects to assist with investigations as they continue tracking down other accomplices.
